If You Cannot Be Present
If you cannot be present on moving day, arrange for a trusted friend or family member to act as your representative. Brief them thoroughly in advance — provide them with a detailed inventory, clear instructions about where furniture should go in your new home, and your contact number in case of questions. Make sure they have access to both properties.
What You Must Do Before Leaving
Before leaving your old property for the last time, make sure you have: done a final walk-through of every room (including loft, garage, and garden); taken meter readings and photographed them; collected all keys, fobs, and alarm codes; checked that all windows and doors are locked; and confirmed that all items on your inventory have been loaded.
At Your New Home
When the removal crew arrives at your new home, check all items against your inventory before they leave. Report any damage to the removal company immediately and in writing — do not sign any paperwork that states all items were delivered in good condition if you have not had the opportunity to check them properly.
