Booking & Planning

How far in advance should I book a removal company?

As a general rule, you should book a removal company at least 4–6 weeks before your move date. For moves at busy times of year — particularly Friday moves, end-of-month moves, and moves during the summer school holidays — we recommend booking 8–12 weeks in advance.

Costs & Quotes

What is included in a removal company quote?

A comprehensive removal company quote should include the cost of the removal crew and vehicle, fuel, Goods in Transit insurance, and any agreed additional services such as packing, dismantling, and reassembly. It should also clearly state what is not included — such as parking suspension fees, packing materials (if not using a packing service), and storage costs.

Moving Day

Do I need to be present on moving day?

While it is not strictly necessary for you to be present throughout moving day, we strongly recommend that you or a trusted representative is available at both the collection and delivery addresses. This allows you to direct the crew, answer questions, and check that all items have been loaded and delivered correctly.

Packing & Preparation

What should I pack in my moving day essentials box?

Your moving day essentials box should contain everything you need for the first 24–48 hours in your new home, without having to unpack any of your other boxes. This typically includes: kettle, mugs, tea and coffee, bedding and towels, toiletries, phone chargers, a change of clothes, snacks, children's essentials, and any medication.

What happens if something is damaged during my move?

If something is damaged during your move, report it to the removal company immediately and in writing. Take photographs of the damage and do not sign any paperwork stating all items were delivered in good condition until you have checked everything. A reputable removal company will have Goods in Transit insurance to cover damage that occurs during the move.

Specialist Items

How do I move a piano?

Moving a piano requires specialist equipment and expertise. You should never attempt to move a piano without professional help — pianos are extremely heavy (an upright piano typically weighs 200–300kg; a grand piano 300–600kg), fragile, and awkward to manoeuvre. Always use a removal company with specialist piano moving experience.
