The Challenge

What needed to be done

The Ashworth estate required the relocation of 67 antique pieces — including oil paintings, Georgian furniture, porcelain collections, and a 17th-century grandfather clock — from a Grade II listed Cheshire country house to a London townhouse. Several pieces were of significant monetary and sentimental value. The Grade II listing imposed strict access restrictions on the Cheshire property, and the London townhouse had narrow staircases requiring specialist handling.

Our Approach

How we delivered it

Daley & Co's white glove director conducted a two-day survey, cataloguing every piece with condition reports and photographic records. Fourteen bespoke timber crates were constructed in-house for the largest and most fragile items. A specialist fine art insurer was engaged for the duration of the move. The team of eight included two antique furniture specialists and a fine art handler. Soft-close vehicle ramps and padded flooring were used throughout. The London delivery was completed over two days to allow careful placement without rushing.

Key Actions

  • Two-day pre-move survey with full condition reports
  • 14 bespoke timber crates constructed in-house
  • Specialist fine art insurance arranged
  • Eight-person team including antique and fine art specialists
  • Two-day London delivery for careful placement

The Outcome

The result

Every piece was condition-reported before crating and checked against that report on arrival, with the insurers party to both. The grandfather clock — which had not been moved in 40 years — was dismantled, transported and reinstalled by our specialist clock handler rather than a general crew. The client has since engaged us for two further specialist moves.
